The Relationship of Body Weight with the Plumpness Index on the Batur Lamb in the Batur Subdistrict, Banjarnegara Regency

Abstract

Backgrounds. The aim of this experiment to know the measurment of body weight, chest, plumpness index, length and girth of leg, and to evaluate the relationship of body weight and plumness index and chest Batur lamb in the Batur Subdistrict, Banjarnegara Regency. Materials and Methods. The material used is 145 heads of Batur lamb which are kept by small holders with ages 1-6 months. Purposive sampling method was used in this experiment. The variables measured were body weight, chest, plumpness index, length adn girth leg of the Batur lamb which were traditionally maintained. Results. Average body weight, chest circumference, plumness index, thigh circumference and thigh length of Batur sheep were 19.36 ± 5.71 kg, 63.58 ± 8.17 cm, 1.07 ± 0.14 cm, 21.43 ± 3.46 cm and 20.09 ± 2.4 cm. The results of the study, chest with body weight had a significantly effect (P<0.05), while the plumness index with body weight had no significantly effect (P>0.05). Conclusion. Grith of Batur lambs can be used for predicting the live weight, while plumpness index can not be.
