Abstract

Background. The purpose of the study was to determine the value of repitability and Most Probable Producing Ability (MPPA) of the birth
weights of Saanen goats. The study was conducted from 13thMarch until 5th April 2019 in Balai Besar Pembibitan Ternak Unggul dan Hijauan Pakan Ternak (BBPTU-HPT) Baturraden. Materials and methods The research material was recordings of 56 Saanen does that already have given birth three parities. The total recordings of birth weight records were 227 data consisting of 118 male kids and 109 female kids with 112 single birth types and 56 twin birth types. The variables measured were repeatability and MPPA birth weight of Saanen goats. Birth weight data corrected to the male sex and single birth type. Repeatability estimated using variance analysis. Results. The results showed that the actual birth weights for parity one to three were 2.14 ± 0.17 kg, 3.02 ± 0.73 kg and 3.40 ± 0.64 kg respectively,
while the means of corrected birth weight parity one to three were 2.19 ± 0.17 kg, 3.13 ± 0.73 kg and 3.55 ± 0.62 respectively. Conclusion. The estimation repeatability (r) of birth weight was 0.068 ± 0.047 which was classified as low category (r < 0.1) and the highest MPPA value of birth weight was 3.48 kg with individual doe number S0159 (xx 230 - 15) and the lowest was 2.34 kg with individual doe number S0196 (xx 293 - 15).
